Back pain can surely keep you from doing a good deal of your normal routines. Lower back pains can keep you from exercise, wearing fancy shoes and even dancing your night away. Upper back pain can keep you from lifting heavy objects, stretching your arms to their required or expected capacity, and, in the case of severe upper back pain, even from breathing properly.

If you lift heavy objects constantly, and without the proper posture in doing so, then you are more prone to back pains. If you are seated for a greater part of your day, and at a computer in a non-ergonomically designed chair, then you might also find yourself slouching and consequently, having back pains that can keep you from typing or analyzing aspects of your job to the ability that you are expected to have. Back pain can also be caused by stress. On its own, anxiety can contribute to the severity of back pains.

Back pain affects so many people, that it has become as common as the headache. Our modern lifestyle of sitting for hours at work, not minding our posture. Carrying things and standing up carelessly can make back pain even more difficult to deal with. Even with modern medications and physical therapy, you may still have back pains and have to accept them until the right chiropractor, orthopedist or therapist comes along.

You can help ease your back pain, however, by investing in a few things and moving properly. You can also prevent yourself from getting more back pain by regularly consulting your chiropractor, orthopedist or therapist and participating in physical therapy sessions. Although most back pain can disappear over time, it can easily resurface and cause even greater problems, which is why you need to be more careful with your lifestyle and back.

Doctors of Chiropractic deliver 94% of all manipulative procedures for many back problems including spinal stenosis. If your doctor determines that your condition would benefit from chiropractic care, part of the treatment plan will most likely include a form of spinal manipulation called chiropractic manipulative therapy C.M.T.I or 'adjustments'. The purpose of the adjustment is to normalize the improper spinal motion found within the vertebral subluxation complex, therefore reducing nerve interference.

Spinal Stenosis – is the constriction or narrowing of the vertebral canal. Mainly due to aging, as the gradual lessening of disk space and changes in ligaments advance upon the nerve roots below the lumbar vertebra or L2, pain can result. It's often accompanied by numbness in the legs and is not aided any by walking. Different vertebra and varied physical activities can affect the pain's location, intensity, recurring and duration. To help diagnose this condition, healthcare providers can use myelography, or an x-ray of the spinal cord after injection of air or a radiopaque substance into the subarachnoid space, with a post-CAT scan. And depending upon the patient, treatments can vary and be minor with medication if the pain gradually disappears, to epidural corticosteroid injections in the epidural, to blocks or surgery.

The most common cause for a true pinched nerve is herniated disc, which is sometimes, although not accurately called a slipped disc, and is the most common cause of severe back pain and sciatica. A disc becomes herniated when the jelly doughnut-like inside ruptures out to the point that it “pinches” the nerve. Special testing such as CT Scans or MRIs are recommended to assess the severity of the disc disorder, and can be very helpful in determining the best treatment plan. Your Doctor of Chiropractic may use a special technique to treat your pinched nerve, such as traction, and specialized spinal rehabilitation exercise and stretching programs.

Can A Chrirobractor "Cure" A Herniated Lumbar Disk?
Chiropractic health care is a branch of the healing arts based on the scientific fact that our nervous system controls or influences every cell in our body. Interference to the nervous system (caused by the vertebral subluxation complex) will effect how the nervous system relates to the cells to which it travels. The Chiropractic model of health is centered on the philosophy that the human body, being knit together in a wonderful way, will heal itself given the right opportunity and circumstances.

Facet Syndrome – Similar to pinched nerves symptoms, this is believed to be associated with pain in the back's side joints and the main cause of up to 20 percent of back pain cases, with buttocks and upper leg pain increasing with long-term standing, and when switching sitting / standing / lying positions. An injection of local anesthetic into the facet joint helps determine the diagnosis. However, since the anesthetic relieves the pain at the same time and is used as a short-term solution, an x-ray doesn't help with imaging the pain results. Recommended treatment includes rigorous lumbar activities and body mechanics exercises to learn proper or more beneficial posture and movement techniques.
