The severity of a back sprain can range from mild to severe. Sudden movements can cause injury to the ligaments because the muscles don't have time to react as would happen in a fall or car accident. The muscles don't contract enough to keep the spine within its normal range of motion, causing ligaments to stretch, bruse or tear. Moderate [tag]back sprains[/tag] cause moderate back pain and swelling with bruising. Minor back sprains (slight tearing or overstretching of a ligament) cause minor back pain and swelling with little or no bruising.

Injections of steroids into the lumbar epidural space are frequently used for [tag] low back[/tag] and related radicular leg pains. The question is do they work?
In a recent article in HealthDay, Robert Preidt reports that steroid shots provide only somewhat limited and short-term [tag]ease for lower back pain[/tag] that radiates down the leg. This report comes from the new guideline from the American Academy of Neurology. The researchers broke down studies on the stroids and reasoned that epidural steroid injections may provide some pain relief for between two to six weeks, but the average pain relief is minor.

Oh my aching back!! [tag]Back pain [/tag]- oh how it hurts! As we age [tag]low back pain[/tag]will hit most of us. Some suffer from [tag]mid or high back pain[/tag] but regardless of where it hurts it can be extremely painful. Many things can cause[tag] low back injuries[/tag] and the resulting pain like muscle strain or spasm, sprains of ligaments, joint problems or a "slipped disk." Treatment of ongoing [tag]back problems[/tag] must be directed at the cause.

The most common cause is using your back muscles in activities you're not used to, like lifting heavy furniture, exercise strains or doing yard work. People with ongoing [tag]back pain[/tag] may find it takes weeks or months of treatment, pain pllls, exercise and stretching to mobilize the spine and soft tissues, but will find that meaningful and sustained relief of back pain will usually follow the increase in motion.

However, more serious [tag]bad back conditions and pain[/tag] can come from herniation which describes an abnormality of the intervertebral disc that is also known as a "slipped," "ruptured," or "torn" disc. These conditions required an MD, hostitalization or chiropractic care in many cases and are outside of the realm of this site.

We will cover many aspects of what causes [tag]back and neck pain[/tag] and various treatments outside of surgery. Many of these treatments are from the field of what's called "alternative medicine" and are not widely known.
